The Class Consulting Group is a boutique management consulting firm headquartered in SFO-Bay Area that provides consulting services to senior management and Board of Directors of nonprofit/philanthropic organizations. It also offers community leadership opportunities to professionals. CLASS collaborates with its clients - the Non-Profit Organizations to help them realize their mission and create tangible value. CLASS offers business consulting services in Marketing, Strategy, Human Resources/ Organization, Finance, and IT.
 
We are looking for motivated and committed individuals to join our volunteer-driven teams.
 
Position Type: Volunteering (All volunteering positions at Class Consulting Group are unpaid)
Location- Remote

 
General Responsibilities:
  1. Maintain current knowledge of the organization, its programs, bylaws and articles of incorporation.
  2. Review outcomes and metrics created by CLASS for evaluating its impact, and regularly measuring its performance and effectiveness using those metrics.
  3. Be a trusted advisor to the President as s/he develops and implements CLASS’s strategic plan.
  4. Develop and manage relationships and communicating with funders, partners, and other stakeholders.
  5. Assist the President and hiring committee in recruiting board members.
  6. Provide sensitivity and support to staff member and other board members as they perform their duties.
  7. Ensure CLASS’s commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities the organization serves.
  8. In collaboration with the President, generate substantial annual revenue and foster CLASS’s overall financial health by identifying, cultivating, and stewarding major individual/ corporate donors, and/or foundation gifts.
  9. Exercise loyalty to CLASS and respect confidentiality regarding internal affairs.
Board Responsibilities:
  1. As a voting board member, the Board Chair will attend monthly board meetings, vote on motions, be actively involved with Board Members in development of CLASS strategy, initiatives, and annual goals, approve annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities.
  2. Must attend in-person [post pandemic] monthly board meetings.
  3. Ensure that the board performs a governance role that respects and understands the role of management.
  4. Ensure that the board adopts an annual workplan and objectives that are consistent with the CLASS’s strategic directions, mission, and vision.
  5. Ensure that the work of the board committees is aligned with the board’s role and annual work plan and that the board respects and understands the role of board committees and does not redo committee work at the board level.
  6. Ensure board succession by ensuring there are processes in place to recruit, select, and train directors with the skills, experience, background, and personal qualities required for effective board governance.
  7. Strongly believes in and advocates organizational values and sets strategic direction and overall policy.
  8. Act as an ambassador for the organization and promote organization's image and public standing.
  9. Establish an organizational culture that embraces strategic planning, sets clearly defined goals, and promotes diversity.
  10. Oversee the board’s evaluation processes and provide constructive feedback to individual committee chairs and board members as required.
Requirements:
  1. 15+ years of experience in the area of expertise.
  2. Knowledge of nonprofit practices, nonprofit laws, record keeping, committee management rules, and conducting board meetings.
  3. Prior experience with a Non-Profit Organization and as a Board President/Board Member is preferred.
  4. Demonstrated interest/passion in the non-profit/social responsibility sector.
  5. Comfortable working in an entrepreneurial environment and taking initiative. Willing and able to make asks on CLASS's behalf [ambassadors].
  6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  7. Desire to play lead role in CLASS's growth strategy.
  8. Demonstrated effectiveness in meetings and task forces seen as a leader. Strong team-builder and team member.
  9. Solid professional reputation. Honesty, integrity, and respect for others.
  10. Leadership skills, visionary, self-confident, future orientation, open-minded and articulate, and outgoing personality.
  11. Attend monthly in-person or virtual Board meetings.
  12. Estimated time commitment: 10-15 hours/month [excluding meeting time] depending on the need.

Requirements:

Education Qualification & Experience

  1. Master’s degree in Business/Management from a reputed business school.
  2. 15+ years of experience in the area of expertise [Management, Strategy, Marketing, Nonprofits, Sales, Consulting, Academia, etc.] with 8+ years of prior leadership background. 
  3. Direct experience developing and implementing marketing and branding strategies.
  4. Demonstrated interest/passion in the non-profit/social responsibility sector.
  5. Demonstrated effectiveness in meetings and task forces seen as a leader.
  6. Solid professional reputation.

Skills/Abilities

  1. Comfortable working in an entrepreneurial environment and taking initiative.
  2. Visionary orientation. & leadership skills. Desire to play lead role in CLASS's growth strategy.
  3. Strong team-builder and team member.

Commitment

  1. Minimum commitment of 1term [3 years] for the unpaid / pro-bono position.
  2. Attend Monthly Board meetings.
  3. Attend Weekly Meetings: Virtual [MS Teams]
  4. Time: 10-15 hours per month [excluding meeting time] depending on the need.
  5. Continuous learning
